Engineer + Design + Build

Engineer + DESIGN + BUILD

Matrix HG is an innovative HVAC engineer + design + build firm serving commercial and industrial customers in the greater San Francisco Bay Area, Napa Wine Country, and Sonoma Gold Country.

Our HVAC design philosophy reflects our long-term view on customer relationships. Rather than merely bidding on jobs, our HVAC engineering and design teams conduct a thorough evaluation of each client’s proposed project, as well as their cost-energy-efficiency goals. We design HVAC systems that deliver maximum safety and comfort, save energy, reduce cost at installation and provide optimal operating efficiency over the life of the system. You could say that we put climate control in the hands of our customers.

Matrix’s engineer-design-build project delivery method provides significant advantages over the traditional (design-bid-build) approach for construction projects, in which a designer is appointed from one firm and a contractor from another. In contrast, Matrix HG’s design-build project-delivery system meets our customers’ needs for a single point-of-contact, minimizes risks for the project owner, and reduces the delivery schedule by overlapping design and construction phases.

The design/build project delivery system provides other advantages as well: research repeatedly shows significant advantages to customers and property owners, including: design/build projects are 33.5% faster than projects that are designed and built under separate contracts; design/build projects are constructed 12% faster and cost 6.1% less, on average, than design-bid-build projects.

ENGINEERING + DESIGN

Matrix HG’s construction engineers are intensively-trained problem-solvers who hold professional engineer (PE) licenses. They work closely with Matrix’s commissioning and service professionals, fabrication and installation experts to design HVAC that will operate optimally under each project’s complex requirements. Our engineers understand infrastructure life cycles and have the perspective to solve technical challenges with clarity and imagination. We select our engineers based on demonstrated abilities individuals should have a strong understanding of math and mathematics and physics, and also on other essential factors including critical and analytical thinking, time management, personnel management and excellent communication skills.

The majority of Matrix’s HVAC work is with repeat customers, where we act as prime contractor, managing each project from engineering through partial and full-system design, coordination of multiple subcontractors, materials selection, fabrication and performance of mechanical and some electrical scopes of work. Our construction superintendents, foremen, and project managers oversee each project.

As a union-licensed contractor holding general, mechanical, and electrical licenses, Matrix has superior knowledge of current building codes from day-to-day experience complying with governing codes and enforcement officials.

HVAC Subcontracting

Matrix also serves as a subcontractor to other general contracting firms to perform the mechanical scopes of work on either design/build or plan/spec projects.
